Fireworks shake South Morang
A LOUD explosion heard in South Morang last night was caused by fireworks.South Morang CFA Captain Lindsay McHugh said fire crews attended a call out about 10.30pm to a grassed area off Centenary Drive to find used fireworks under a bin.
“Someone had put big fireworks under a bin and lit it,” he said.
“The bin obviously amplified the noise.”
The explosion was heard over a wide radius.
Mill Park police said they had searched the area but the offenders had not been found.
Last Thursday, Lalor was rocked by a loud bang and power blackouts after a vehicle hit a power pole in Linoak Ave.
The black sports sedan snapped the pole at the base.
At least two fire trucks and three police vehicles attended the scene.
Traffic lights on Kingsway Drive, plus hundreds of homes, were left without power for more than an hour.
