Exhibition drives the next brigade of volunteers
AN alliance of community groups and emergency services came together last Thursday for an event encouraging community involvement and volunteering. The Volunteering Emergency Management Board includes the Country Fire Authority, Whittlesea Community Connections, the council, the LaTrobe Bushfire Co-operative Research Centre and the Department of Planning and Community Development.
South Morang CFA station was turned into an exhibition and training zone for the day, with various community groups taking part in activities that illustrated roles of emergency volunteers.
Community Connections member Peta Temouskos said the event aimed to increase the number and diversity of people volunteering in emergency management.
"This includes the involvement of different cultures, young people and women."
