Fires to suppress bushfires
WHERE there's smoke, there's fire, but not always a need for panic. Whittlesea Council staff have been burning off in parks and bushland reserves to prevent bushfires next summer. The program started at the Quarry Hills Park in Epping last Wednesday. Council technology and infrastructure director Neill Hocking said 10 locations would benefit from the burns, including Epping Cemetery, Yan Yean's Growling Frog Golf Course and Foothills Park in South Morang.
CFA members were involved in supervising the burns.
