Ban remains on open air fires
THE Country Fire Authority (CFA) is reminding City of Whittlesea residents that the fire danger period will continue until 1am on Thursday, 1st May 2008.CFA Region 14 operations manager John Deering said that despite a cooler February, the threat of fire still remained.
"Whilst February was cooler than average, March was one of the hottest months on record and fuel loads continue to be of concern," Mr Deering said. "Under a fire danger regime, fires cannot be lit in the open air without a permit."
Lighting a fire in the open without a permit can result in a fine of up to $5500 or 12 months' imprisonment.
For more information regarding what can or can't be done during the fire danger period, go to www.cfa.vic.gov.au
